Bye bye boston - hello cold
So let me start by saying that blogging on a blackberry while driving in a car is not ideal, so forgive all the typos and the lack of pics!
Got into boston around 8 last night. Our room was increible - 35th floor on a corner overlooking the city. We got a good rec from the guy who helped us with our luggage and hit up bukowski's for dinner and drinks. Some of you may have gotten my text about that - chili burgers mmm.
This morning we opted out of the fenway tour on account of my ankle and the rain, so we took the T down to the sam adams brewery instead. We got free tasting glasses to keep and got to try 3 different beers - although considering the amount of sam's that passes through our house, it was more of a reminder of what we already know and love. We did however get to try boston brick red which is only available on tap oin boston, so that was a real treat.
2 sam adams t-shirts later we are headed out of boston towards maine. While we didn't get to do quite as much in beantown as we would have liked, we had an absolute blast and will definitely come back for more.

On the road again
We're currently in route to boston and we've paid $11 in tolls and still have 4 or 5 more to go - grreat. Getting out of dc this morning was much better than when we arrived. We headed out around 8:30 this morning but luckily we were driving against traffic. I've decided that atlanta should take note from dc on controlling the homeless. We did see homeless peolple (very few of them) but we didn't have to endure the usual antics of our bum crowd - no asking for 'favors', money, or stories about how they 'ran out of gas on their way to see their sister'. Dc bums just keep to their benches and don't bother you, which in turn almost made me want to give them money - almost.
So this is the result of being bored on the new jersey turnpike - reflecting on the differences of the homeless in dc and atlanta. Can't wait for lunch...

A day in dc
Ok first let me back track to last night when we almost killed each other and ourselves trying to find our hotel. Driving in dc, officially not recommended. But the hotel is very nice and we crashed pretty quickly once we got settled.
This morning we got an early start around 7 and were two of very few people - mostly joggers - out around the monuments. The vietnam wall was surreal. We were walking along and there was an old man and his family looking at the wall and he was crying. You would have had to have been numb not to be moved.
Then on to the lincoln which was incredible as expected. Walking along the reflecting pool we spotted the world war memorial in the woods. It's a very pretty dome-shaped monument which we loved, but unfortunately the path was breaking up and I ended up turning my ankle. Considering that our entire day revolved around walking, you can imagine how fun that was.
After the monuments we walked up to the white house which was a bit of a waste of time because there was a giant tent blocking the view. Then we stopped and ate a snack, which brought out the squirrels who all but climbed in our laps to get a bite of our crackers. Ronnie kicked at it enough until it finally surrendered and ran away.
The american history museum was amazing. We tooj the docent tour which I highly recommend. We also saw the actual star spangled banner that inspired our anthem, which was something that honestly made you just sit down and stare.
The rest of the day was a mix between hobbling along, sitting and resting, and museum hopping. We took a cab back to the hotel and just got back from an awesome dinne at old ebbitt grill. Time for beddy by, on to boston tomorrow!

Day 1! DC Bound!
First day and we already feel miles away from everyday life. On our way through GA and south carolina, I talked about steakhouse advertising so much that we ended up pulling into a LongHorn for lunch - awesome as usual. Then back in the car where we struggled for miles to not fall asleep from our heavy lunch. Finally we stopped at a mcdonald's for coffee; it had to have been the nicest mcdonald's we've ever seen - kudos to middle of no where north carolina for that. In route to richmond we got intermingled with what had to be a 300 bike charity ride, which was cool at first buit after an hour of trying not to hit a motorcycle or the cars in front of us, we were pretty happy to say good bye to the iron calvary.
Richmond was absolutely increible. So many old factories, great architecture, and lots of people around. We ate at the capital ale house, a restaurant in a 108 year old building downtown. We branched out and took the server's recs on beer to go with the german entrees we orderedm we even manned up and drank stout with dessert.
So now we're back on the road heading towards dc. Can't wait to fall into the comfy bed we have waiting!

Ready. Set. GOAL!
In preparation for our trip, Ronnie and I decided back in July to train for a 5K to get us in shape for all the walking and site-seeing we'll be doing on our trip. That 5K was this morning. When we first began our training neither of us could run for more than 2 minutes at a time, and today we ran the entire 3.2 miles without stopping! It was incredible! With the race behind us, we're ready for all the walking tours we can stand. Go us!
